Hyssop

July 1st, 2011 · No Comments · Medicinal Plants Poetry Project

Sprinkle the lintels with fresh-drawn lambsblood
clouded blossoms shriek             no history on the flower-hemmed street
three herbals
false lineages
tricking florilegia             stachys major     astrantia byzantina
spiked hadspen
aspergillam hyssopus
ezob       th’ysopo             the book of Kings             the lowly herb

It is a heavy herb, laden with the names of Wilde, Cowper, Cowley, Yeats
who has a hyssop-heavy sponge by his Kidron stream
Wilde says       we have no need of a hyssop-laden rod
I have need of it
